Christmas Lights Switch-on

Date of Event: 29/11/2008 - 29/11/2008

Get switched on to Christmas!

Christmas light parade through centre

The countdown to Christmas starts on Saturday 29th as Lewisham shopping prepares to welcome youngsters and their families to its magical grotto when the town officially switches on the Christmas lights.

Youngsters can meet Santa in his snowy woodland cottage and receive a special Christmas gift. The grotto is open daily from today through to Christmas Eve – and busy Mums and Dads can beat the queue and book online at www.bookfatherchristmas.co.uk.

Santa’s Grotto at Lewisham shopping is just one of the highlights of the town’s festivities. The fun starts on 29th November from 2.30pm with live music and entertainment all the way until approximately 4.45pm when Deputy Mayor Heidi Alexander leads the countdown to turning on the lights in the main focal area outside Lewisham shopping.

Children will start their Christmas Parade at 4.15pm from St. Saviour’s Primary School (Bonfield Road, SE13) where they will be joined by Snow White and The Prince, stars of the Broadway Theatre Christmas Pantomime. With a giant Snow Queen puppet, Jack Frost sculpture, snowflakes and lanterns they will parade through Lewisham shopping before arriving at the focal area for the lights switch- on.

This year we would like as many children to experience the magic of Christmas and we welcome letters to Santa from all youngsters attending the procession why they think they should be allowed to see Santa for free. Please do not forget to give us a contact name and number of your legal parent or guardian, together with a short paragraph of no more than 50 words to be handed in at the customer services desk on the 29th November from 4.00pm.”
