"These hands are not for hurting"

White Ribbon Event

As part of its community engagement plan Lewisham shopping hosted the White Ribbon Event in Central Square on Wednesday 24th November. The campaign usually runs for one or two weeks from 25th November, the International Day for Eradication of violence against woman.

This year the campaign kicked off with a pledge of handprints by key community leaders such as The Mayor, Sir Steve Bullock supported by Chief Superintendent Jeremy Burton from the Metropolitan Police and Cllr Onuegbu, lead counsellor for community safety. The initiative was backed by Lewisham shopping Centre Manager Paul Redden, Security Manager Gordon Glean and Operations Manager Tony Rose. All the autographed handprints are captured on canvas and will soon be available for viewing by the public in the West Walkway of Lewisham shopping to serve as a reminder of the significant pledge made this year - "These hands are not for hurting".

White Ribbon Event

The White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) is the UK branch of the global campaign to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.
