Christmas Celebrations in Lewisham

Christmas parade walking through the Centre

Hundreds of people packed into Lewisham for the 10th annual town centre Winter Festival on Saturday.

The town centre came alive with Christmas-themed walkabout street arts, an entertainment bandstand from Lewisham’s schools and community performance groups, free arts crafts workshops, and a French Christmas market selling goodies for Christmas.

Pupils from six local schools took part in the annual ‘Be Safe, Be Seen Lantern Parade’, which highlights child road safety.  The parade made its way up the high street

and through the newly refurbished shopping centre, with the children showing off their handmade lanterns.

The day was hosted by up and coming star Shereen Shabana, and afternoon's festivities concluded with Lewisham's Deputy Mayor, Heidi Alexander, switching on the Christmas lights.

The Lewisham Winter Festival is free and is funded by Lewisham Shopping, the Lewisham Council’s Town Centre management team and Lewisham Market, as a joint project to animate the town centre in the lead up to Christmas.

It’s just the first event of the festive season with activities each Saturday in December that include Santa in residence in the shopping centre right through until Christmas.
